Ratna Buddha Family Wisdom represented by Shakya Devi
Shakya Devi was one of Guru Rinpoche's five main consorts. Her mother died in childbirth, and relatives abandoned the infant Shakya Devi in a charnel ground beside her mother's corpse. She survived thanks to a band of monkeys who nurtured her. Growing up she became a yogini and resided near Shankhu, a pilgrimage place outside Kathmandu, Nepal.
Padmasambhava had made friends with the monkeys years before, and they used their communication systems to inform Padma about the child. He found Shakya Devi and brought her to Mandarava, who raised the girl into her teens. Shakya Devi studied with Yeshe Tsogyal and Padma to become a tantric master and teacher.
